Healthy Summer Living in Palatine Illinois

The abundance of fresh produce from the local farmers market allows for some healthy Summer living in Palatine Illinois.  Summer is the time of year for fresh produce and nothing represents this subject better than a farmers market, which symbolizes healthy food and fresh produce with the added bonus of being locally grown.  The Palatine Farmers Market offers fresh food from early May through the end of October each year.Fresh produce is available every Saturday in Palatine Illinois

Every Saturday from May 2nd through October 31st Palatine residents and visitors can find something fresh to eat at the corner of Wood Street and Smith Street, the parking lot of the Palatine train station, from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.  What can you find on any given Saturday throughout the Summer and early Fall?  The available fare includes locally grown flowers, eggs, meat, cheese, baked goods, pickles, pasta, sauces, jellies, jams, honey, home-made soaps, pet treats, pottery and other crafts and natural items.  The farmers market enhances the community of Palatine and all that it offers its residents.

Fremd High School

Fremd High School
Fremd High School opened up in 1963 as Palatine High School South to fit the growing needs of the town. The school has a 99% graduation rate for the students. Since 1998 15 students have scored a 36 on their ACT’s, the highest score possible. Fremd sponsors interscholastic teams for young men and women and also sponsors 65 clubs and activities ranging from cultural and artistic to academic and technology. Fremd has been given the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award.

Palatine High School

Palatine High School was founded in 1875. It was the first public high school in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. The school has received the U. S. Department of Education’s Blue Ribbon Award and won the 1999 Peaceleader Award from the Illinois Center for the Prevention of Violence. The school currently ranks in the 1300 schools for Newsweek Magazine. Palatine High School currently offers over 80 extracurricular activities for students to participate in and has placed many times in the top four while competeing in State Compitions.

Get Ready For An Active Weekend in Palatine Illinois

Dust off your sneakers, it's going to be an active weekend in Palatine IllinoisThis weekend will be an active one in Palatine Illinois.  Saturday marks the 4th Extreme Trail Run 12K of the summer.  The run begins at 8:100 a.m., and will start and finish at the Deer Grove West Forest Preserve in Palatine.  This trail run is part of a five run series put on by Montrail/Mountain Hardware for both those looking for a fun or competitive race, email Scott Bush at sbush1002@gmail.com for more information.

Sunday is full of activity in Palatine IL as well, with both a triathlon and a 5K run/walk taking place.  The Bangs Lake Triathlon will take place at its namesake, Bangs Lake starting at 6:30 a.m.  The triathlon consists of a 1.5k swim, a 40 k bike and a 10k run.  Click here for more information on the Bangs lake Triathlon.

The Joggin for the Noggin 5K kicks off at 7:30 a.m. in downtown Palatine.  This fun run/walk benefits those whose lives have been affected by brain cancer.  Click here for further information about this charitable event.

Settlement of Palatine began in the 1830s, and the Village of Palatine, Illinois was officially incorporated in 1866. This long, rich history is still evident today. A visit to the George Clayson House (est. 1873) will give you a sense of what life must have been like in Palatine 150 years ago.
